Market Hall, Barnsley

Yorkshire Specialist Coatings worked with Smart Door Solutions and Barnsley Council to refurbish the Market Hall entrance doors in Barnsley, South Yorkshire.

Barnsley’s famous market is over 700 years old and has over 300 stalls located in both indoor and outdoor areas. A large part of Barnsley town centre was constructed during the 1960s. The area around Cheapside and May Day Green, the metropolitan centre, is home to the market and many national high street chains such as Marks & Spencer and WH Smith, It was due to be demolished in 2009 to make way for a new retail and leisure development; but remains standing.

Yorkshire Specialist Coatings were appointed by Smart Door Solutions to repaint the upper floor entrance doors to Barnsley’s famous Market Hall which consisted of a run of eight steel door panels. Utilising AVKO’s Universal paint, the steel door sections were painted inside and out providing the overall appearance with a much needed facelift.

The works were carried out on a Sunday; this ensured the least possible disruption to the Market traders and shoppers, all areas surrounding the doors were fully masked off and protected prior to spray painting, a fume extraction unit was also installed to minimise odours from the paint.

Avkote Universal paint was used, this is a one coat high solids general purpose coating with high corrosion resistance and an ultra-hard finish on industrial metals & steel framed constructions.
